today's perfect woman
Alchera Project Begins: Saturday, October 05, 2002 Project Ends: Saturday, November 02, 2002 Project Details: Please choose from one of the following project options, and be sure to answer all of the questions assigned to the project option you choose. OPTION NO. TWO: Write a piece of prose or poetry (fiction, or nonfiction if you are able!) that contains all of the following: a leak, an instrumental album, a robe, time, sadness, lace panties, numbers. No one knows todays perfect woman But I recognize the model: career, family, friends Fill her decorated lifestyle with enough buzz and zing To push the effects of time to another door Where some unsuspecting woman, wearing sadness Like a robe, learns again about patience and happiness. The vainest and shallowest people around me Are constructing this new prototype of aspiration, every day, From all of the moldy stuff I thought had gone away. Todays perfect woman packs chaos and sunshine Into every lunch or endless Saturday errand, Leaving behind tiny trailing bits. The rest Of us discover it like confetti still surfacing From a party four years ago. She is the type of woman who would run A marathon in lace panties. The kind of woman Who grills acquaintances and mimics the secrets Of their souls to others for recognition, Demonstrating that between her mind And her heart, she has sprung a leak. Todays perfect woman is not about content. After a day spent benchmarking style and quality, She puts on a Herb Alpert album for its kickiness And does her stretches to the Tijuana brass, Unaware of the sound of the horns moving in all directions Away from her the real life she cannot catch.
