a short list of my likes

Things I like

I can't sleep and began listing out all of the things I didn't like, so many of them having to do with not being able to sleep. But I found myself getting despondent and weepy, so I decided to make a list of the things I like, in no particular order.

• writing

• making compilation cds

• working in the darkroom

• a really cold drink on a hot summer day, slightly sweet but not too sweet

• walking along the ocean

• swimming in big, clean lakes; vast, clean oceans

• when my feet get soft from sand

• remembering the ocean

• listening to fisherman talk among themselves

• going out for ice cream on a summer evening

• driving with no other cars around

• singing songs and knowing all the words

• dusting and polishing wood furniture

• dancing

• going to nightclubs and bars

• the wind in my hair

• cooking outside

• reading in the sunlight

• eating a wonderful dinner then taking a walk

• spending the afternoon at the movies

• eating peanut M&M�s

• watching leaves skitter across pavement

• taking pictures of city scenes

  driving a boat

• listening to powerful music, really loud

• a good shower

• drinking coffee on a porch

• rocking in a rocking chair

• walking barefoot through the house

• soft, cotton clothes

• remembering the times I�ve laughed

• a hardy, sustained laugh

• being around funny people

• the smell of lily of the valley

• baking cookies and cakes from scratch

• going on a picnic

• dinner parties with a bunch of friends where everyone cooks and feels comfortable, homey

• exploring new places

• going to junk shops

• rearranging furniture

• restoring furniture

• walking in the rain

• the wind before a thunderstorm

• looking at the stars

• playing softball

• noticing little things no one else notices

• making up new words to old songs

• putting decorative verbal flourishes on the same old wordarunies

• wearing sunglasses

• watching ferns grow
